Award-winning Scottish-Italian writer/director working in comedy, genre and commercials.
Alessio Avezzano is a writer and director based in Scotland. Born in Italy and raised in Glasgow, he first built an international audience through YouTube, creating sketch comedy and the Shanghai-set sitcom Mamahuhu.
In 2022, he wrote and directed Isleanders, a BBC sitcom pilot that premiered on BBC iPlayer and won Best Writing at the Stareable Pilot Festival in New York. His horror-comedy short Midgies (2024) surpassed one million views online and received a nomination for the RØDE Creator of the Year Award. His latest short, Behind, is scheduled for festival release in 2026, while Straw, a Scottish folk horror comedy, is currently in production.
He is currently developing his debut feature film, Midgies.
