Alessio Avezzano is a writer and director based in Scotland, UK. Born in Italy and raised in Glasgow, he first made his name on YouTube, where his sketch comedy and the Shanghai-set digital sitcom Mamahuhu built an international following. His channel now has more than 180,000 subscribers and earned him the YouTube Silver Play Button Award.
In 2022, Alessio wrote and directed Isleanders, a BBC sitcom pilot that premiered on BBC iPlayer and won Best Writing at the Stareable Pilot Festival in New York. His horror-comedy short Midgies (2024) went viral with over 1 million views and a nomination for the RØDE Creator of the Year Award. His latest short Behind is set to premiere at festivals in 2026, while Straw — a folk horror comedy set in Scotland — is currently in production.
Alessio’s work often blends genres, with a strong emphasis on visual storytelling and finding inventive ways to get the most out of limited resources. Alongside his films, he has directed campaigns for brands such as IKEA, Range Rover, Irn-Bru, Bacardi, VisitScotland, First Bus, Leica, and Panasonic.
He is currently developing his first feature film and is available for hire both locally and internationally, with bases in Scotland, London, and Shanghai.
